module_02 Effects of Submergence on Soil Properties
objective Explain what happens when soil is submerged for rice production

Soil is teaming with life and it is the primary medium for growing plants.  Most soil is exposed to the air.  However, much of the world’s population depends on a crop grown in soil submerged by a layer of water.   The practice of submerging soil for rice production has been going on for centuries and even millenia.

Questions from Mod 2

What happens when soil is submerged under water?  Do the properties of soil change?  Each lesson in Module 2 addresses a question about the properties of submerged soils.

Goal of Mod 2 By completing this module,  you will be introduced to some of the changes taking place and how these changes effect rice production.
