Seed Health Unit - its role in IRRI

     
Single gateway   Seed Health Unit (SHU), as the Single Gateway for all incoming and outgoing rice seeds, rice grains for destructive analysis, non-seed biological materials, and soil samples to and from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), has been mandated to do the following:

Post entry clearance for PGRFA into IRRI Ensure that the seed health status of  rice seeds, rice grains for destructive analysis, non-seed biological materials and soil samples coming into IRRI (IMPORTED) meet Philippine plant quarantine regulations and standards before being released to IRRI scientists;

Phytosanitary certification for PGRFA out of IRRI Ensure that the seed health status of  rice seeds, rice grains for destructive analysis, non-seed biological materials and soil samples sent from IRRI (EXPORTED) meet plant quarantine standards and import regulations of recipient countries; and

Intellectual property rights protocols Ensure that the intellectual property rights protocols established by IRRI in line with its agreement with the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) are complied with in all incoming and outgoing materials (rice seeds, polished/dehulled/milled/powdered rice grains, non-seed biological materials and soil samples) to and from IRRI.
