History

Sheath rot was first described in Taiwan in 1922. The disease has been reported in Japan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Nigeria, Gambia, Mexico, and the United States

Distribution and Occurrence

It is present in Japan and is very common in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. It is considered a major problem in upland rice in West Africa on rice cultivars introduced from Asia.
