Alternate Host - Rice Blast

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

Rice blast affects other host grasses.  Although blast disease is also observed on grass weeds, these weeds are not always the source of inoculum for the rice crop. Studies showed that the DNA profiles of many blast isolates from weeds were different from those of rice hence, cross infection involving these isolates were not possible. Besides the grass hosts reported by many workers, the pathogen has been found on a number of other plant species, including ginger, canna, banana, and sedges.
