History

Bakanae, one of the first diseases of rice to be described scientifically in 1898, was observed in Japan in 1828.

Distribution and Occurrence

Bakanae occurs in both upland and lowland rice. The disease is widely distributed in all rice growing areas. It is commonly seen in many parts of Southeast Asia but the incidence is usually low.
