Types of Delivery Systems
Instructional delivery systems fall into three categories:

Category Description
Face-to-face Learning that occurs with the instructor and learner(s) in the same place at the same time.
Distance learning Learning that occurs independent of time and/or space. Learning can be synchronous (happening at the same time) for all participants or asynchronous (happening at different times). For example, synchronous distance learning can occur with learners who are in geographically different places but using Internet chat, the telephone or videoconferencing to communicate. With asynchronous distance learning, all learning and communications take place at different times (e.g. using packaged print or Web-based materials supplemented with discussion groups and email).
Blended
A combination of face-to-face and distance learning methods. An example would be an e-Learning course for presenting course content supplemented with a face-to-face component to complete laboratory work or field exercises that cold not otherwise be completed in isolation.
