Active ingredient

Products consist of the active ingredient (a.i.) – which is the effective part of the formulation - plus a series of “inert ingredients”. The inert ingredients can include “safeners”, “surfactants” and/or “carriers”. The carrier varies with product, but may be water, an organic solvent (in the case of emulsifiable concentrates), or powdered clay in the case of granule and wettable powders.

Recommendations come as either product/area or as active ingredient per area.

Active ingredient is often expressed as either a percent or in g/l.
